How to prepare for UPSC Civil Service Exam, 2023
Union Public Service Commission, UPSC, Exam is one such exam
that is known to be the toughest exam of all in India. It is also one of the
toughest exams in Asian continent. Every year thousand and lakhs of student
from different background chose to prepare for this prestigious exam and of
these, only few of them clear exam every year. Preparation for this prestigious
exam will be a big challenge for students as it demands consistent effort to
study religiously. As the syllabus and the pattern of examination is lengthy,
one needs to have good guidance and smart strategy in order to crack this Exam.
In this article we shall be discussing how to prepare for UPSC
CSE Exam. To prepare for this exam one need to first understand about the
examination and its syllabus and then the strategy to approach.

First and foremost thing you should do is to ask
someone you trust and have years of preparation or who have clear the prelims
or mains exam in the past They will know how difficult the exam is and to what
extend one need to prepared.
Only after you are aware of the challenges that one should
face for this preparation you should decide to whether to go ahead with the
preparation not. If you are to go ahead, I am sure you are in the right place
again. Here are few things you should do if you are to go ahead with the
preparation:-

Make good and trusted friends: Find someone whom you
can have study target together or discuss about exam. This will help you in
your preparation and you will be able to scale up your study plan. It is also
good that you have good and honest friends or study circle to have better and
quick response when you don’t know something important. These friends can help
you and keep the study environment productive. But, be careful that friends are
to be meant only to share knowledge and not for unnecessary discussion.

Know the Syllabus: Study details about the syllabus
and try to memorize them. As the syllabus is vast, it needs special attention
as to which portion to focus and which portion to omit during preparation. To

Learn to Newspaper: Reading newspaper may not be easy
during your preparation. As contends are from different areas you may not know

Stick to Basic Book: One way to have good preparation
is to stick your learning to basic and concept first. Many students go for
NCERT Books and I suggest you to go for it as well. By the time cover the

Chose the right Standard BOOK: There are multiple
books available in the market. Each book may have their own merits, but to be

Learn to make Notes: Note making is one of the most
factors to ease your entire preparation journey. There are students who use
soft copy notes and some make hard copy notes. For better access, it is

Choosing right
Optional: Choosing the right optional is as important as knowing the syllabus
and pattern of the examination. Once you
know your favorite taste you will be able to consume more, likewise if you
choose the right optional paper, you will be able to have edge over your
friends. At the end of the day, choosing the right optional will help you to
decide your overall ranking rank.

Set study time table: This is also necessary to keep
your attention to study. Once you strictly follow you study time table, chances
are that you may one day crack exam if not in your first attempt. Therefore,
make a strategy and set the table as per your comfortable schedule.

Practice answer writing: This is very significant as
UPSC demands not only understanding and knowledge skill, it also required one
to have good way of conveying thought and expression. Practice of answer
writing can be at the later stage but my advice is to write atleast one single
answer per day to have a better answering skills.
B)Students who already appeared
twice or more:
There are students who already
appeared twice or more but couldn’t clear the exam. There is no certainty that
the longer we prepared the chances is to clear the exam. One must understand
that UPSC CSE is dynamic and one needs to be consistent in their efforts during
the course of their preparation. There are students out there who had clear the
exam in their first attempt. What do you think their strategy all about? They
may be well guided and strictly follows the rules that they made and give their
best in order to scale over thousands of students. But, despite best efforts

Find out your weakness: This is the best option. Self
evaluating and knowing your own weakness is the best possible way to get into
the game of UPSC. Otherwise, mistakes that you committed but didn’t work for
you won’t either let you change your result. Try accepting it and create new
strategy to move forward.

Revision: This is also vital as human brain is
limited. We need to remind ourselves that things that we learnt can’t remain
for long. It needs to recall and for this, revision is the best tool where you
can do better in your next attempt.

Take Mock Test: If possible. Take multiple mock tests.
The more will be the better.
iv)
Limit your friends: As you had already know the
syllabus, the trends and the portion where you should focus, it is time you
should limit your friends and firmly stick to your study.
v)
Find motivation: As we often gets bored, it is
necessary for one to get motivated every time we become weak. For this, listen

always in touch with someone who can motivate you and ready to give mental
support.
